Something new

It’s good to be here right now
with the machines whirring
outside my window, across the street
they are demolishing my neighbour’s house
the blue one
with the angled roof
I won’t see the familiar light inside
anymore, a beacon,
but someone new will live there
now, a future friend
an accountant, a porn star, the possibilities

When Steve left my life
in shambles, and I took the
bus home on autopilot
my whole self broken down
the shell of me, I needed that
something new lives in me now
and gratitude bubbles up
like a hidden brook that wells
out into an open forest

modern interior room with nice furniture inside
